Stellantis has announced a partnership with UK-based autonomous driving startup Wayve to integrate hands-free driver assistance features into its North American vehicles by 2028. This collaboration marks a significant step for Stellantis, which owns brands such as Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, and Dodge, as it aims to enhance its AI-assisted driving capabilities. The partnership is not a pilot but a commercial contract for scalable production, according to Wayve CEO Alex Kendall.
Wayve's system, which does not rely on specific sensors or high-definition maps, will be optimized for existing vehicle hardware, potentially reducing costs for mass production. Stellantis also revealed plans to launch 11 new vehicles by 2030 as part of a $70 billion business revitalization initiative, with seven models priced below $40,000. This move positions Stellantis to compete with software-driven advancements from rivals like Tesla, while Wayve transitions from technology demonstrations to mass-production partnerships.
