Nine cryptocurrency firms have formed the Quantum Alliance to develop quantum-resistant security standards and migration guidelines for blockchain networks including Bitcoin and Ethereum. Founding members include Hacken, Midnight Foundation, Quantus, and Postquant Labs, with the group set to publish security testing frameworks to address emerging cryptographic threats. The alliance estimates that public keys for approximately 6.4 million BTC, representing 30.2% of total supply, are currently exposed. This figure includes roughly 1.1 million BTC attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto. While current quantum computers cannot crack these keys, Postquant Labs CTO Richard Carback warns the threat could materialize by 2028 and advocates moving at-risk funds rather than freezing them. The Vault CRO Bryn Bennett stated that any decision to freeze exposed coins should be determined through Bitcoin network governance.
