MetaMask has rolled out a new security feature called Added Protection in browser extension v13.45, designed to defend against Red Pill attacks on Ethereum and EVM applications. The system simulates transactions before execution and locks the preview result as a mandatory condition; if on-chain execution deviates from the simulation, the transaction automatically rolls back, limiting user losses to gas fees only.
Enabled by default with an option to disable on the confirmation page, the feature currently supports 13 EVM networks compatible with smart accounts under EIP-7702. Mobile support is scheduled for a future release. This update targets malicious contracts that mimic harmless behavior during previews but attempt unauthorized asset transfers during actual execution.
