Ethereum developer Kevaundray Wedderburn submitted an update to EIP-8450 that simplifies the technical plan for Ethereum's transition to post-quantum cryptography. The proposal removes the path for registering post-quantum keys via withdrawal address authorization and eliminates related execution layer contracts. Under the updated scheme, validators' existing BLS signing keys would uniformly handle the registration and replacement of post-quantum keys, with a key replacement interval of at least 256 epochs and built-in replay attack protection mechanisms. The proposal also adds a VRF tree root to registered keys and further streamlines the cryptographic specification.
