Crypto ATM scams are rising sharply, with reported losses exceeding $388 million in 2025, up 58% from a year earlier, according to FBI data cited by the CFTC. The agency said scammers are increasingly using crypto ATMs, gift cards, unfamiliar apps, and courier deliveries to pressure victims into sending funds. The CFTC said government agencies, legitimate financial institutions, and trusted businesses will not ask people to transfer money through crypto ATMs, gift cards, or courier services, and urged anyone receiving such instructions to stop immediately and verify the request independently.
