A new SemiAnalysis report indicates that Anthropic’s Opus 5.5 subscription delivers over five times the value of OpenAI’s GPT-6.1 Sol tier when measured by equivalent API usage. The analysis highlights a significant divergence in pricing strategies, noting that OpenAI recently halved the usage allowance for its $200 Pro plan. Despite subscriptions accounting for only 10% of Anthropic’s total revenue, the tier consumes more than 40% of the company's inference compute capacity. This disparity suggests Anthropic is currently prioritizing user acquisition and market share over immediate subscription profitability compared to its competitors.
