Top DePIN Coins to Watch in 2026

Key Points

The top DePIN coins to watch in 2026 are Grass, io.net, ICP, Filecoin and Render. Four jumped together in mid-October, led by Grass at 25.98%.

The top DePIN coins to watch in 2026 are five decentralized physical infrastructure networks led by Grass (GRASS), which jumped 25.98% in one mid-October day on Phemex. Next come io.net (IO), then Internet Computer (ICP), Filecoin (FIL) and Render (RENDER). Each one pays people in tokens for real-world hardware and connections.

That was the largest gain among the 301 Phemex spot and futures markets that day, when the median market rose 0.96% and Bitcoin did the same. Four of these five finished in the top 11. The jump ran hardest where trading was thinnest, and IO's spot pair changed hands for only about $30,900 on the day.

What Is DePIN in Crypto?

DePIN in crypto describes networks that pay people in tokens to supply physical resources like spare bandwidth or idle graphics cards. The network then sells that capacity to customers who need it. The token is the payroll, and the customers are the revenue.

That makes every DePIN crypto project a race between two numbers. One is the value of the new tokens a network hands to its suppliers, and the other is what outside customers pay for the service.

If the first keeps outrunning the second, you're holding a token whose supply grows faster than the business behind it.

Phemex Academy's guide to what DePIN is and how it works walks through the model, and the five coins below show both sides of that race in October 2026.

How We Chose the Five

Any DePIN crypto projects list needs a rule, and this one has two tests. Each coin belongs to CoinMarketCap's DePIN category, which listed 268 coins in October 2026, and trades on a live Phemex market. Each also rose 10% or more on one Phemex market that mid-October day or made CoinMarketCap's 24-hour most-searched list the day after.

Four qualified on the move and Render on searches, so this DePIN crypto list ranks the top DePIN crypto projects by that one day's gain.

You won't find NEAR here, even though its Phemex perpetual rose 11.36% that day, because it isn't in CoinMarketCap's DePIN category. Bittensor (TAO) is in it, yet its perpetual gained only 3.64% and it didn't make the search list.

Grass (GRASS)

Grass pays people for the unused bandwidth on their home connections and sells the public web data that flows through it to AI companies. GRASS rose 25.98% on Phemex spot that day, from $0.6679 to $0.8414.

In early October 2026 Grass launched its Contents API, which turns any public URL into clean text for AI agents. Grass says the API retrieved 98% of pages in its own hard-domain test, running on the network of home connections that Grass pays for.

Phemex Academy explains what Grass is and how it works from nodes to staking.

io.net (IO)

The io.net network is a GPU cloud on Solana that rents graphics cards from independent owners to AI developers. IO rose 17.61% on Phemex spot that day, from $0.1552 to $0.1826, the fourth-largest move of the 301 markets.

Its Incentive Dynamic Engine went live in June 2026. Under it, io.net burns at least half of the IO revenue the network keeps after paying its GPU providers. That means the burn grows when customers spend more.

The catch is the market, since on Phemex IO trades only as a spot pair and its perpetual is delisted. Phemex has also announced the delisting of that spot pair, with margin trading ending in October 2026 and spot to follow at a later date.

Internet Computer (ICP)

Internet Computer is DFINITY's blockchain for hosting whole apps and their data on-chain, and ICP pays for that compute. The ICP perpetual on Phemex rose 10.92% that day, from $3.122 to $3.463.

DFINITY Stiftung has applied for a ".icp" top-level domain. ICANN's own record of the application lists it as Pre-Evaluation Processing, the stage before any evaluation begins. The round's String Confirmation Day falls on 17 November 2026, so the domain is far from granted.

For the chain and its canister smart contracts, see Phemex's guide to what Internet Computer (ICP) is.

Filecoin (FIL)

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network where providers earn FIL for keeping clients' files and proving on-chain that they still hold them. The FIL perpetual on Phemex rose 10.03% that day, from $1.117 to $1.229, and it carried the most futures turnover of the five.

Phemex's explainer on what Filecoin (FIL) is covers how that storage market works.

Supply is where the calendar matters. Filecoin's documentation says the tokens set aside for Protocol Labs teams and the Filecoin Foundation vest over six years. Mainnet went live in October 2020, so that schedule runs out in mid-October 2026. After that, no more of those team and foundation tokens vest, while mining rewards keep minting new FIL.

Render (RENDER)

Render is a GPU rendering network where artists and studios pay to render 3D scenes on other people's graphics cards. The network burns RENDER to match the cost of each job. Its perpetual rose only 3.37% that day, from $1.931 to $1.996, so Render earned its place through search demand from traders.

Fees tell a weaker story, and DefiLlama's Render Network fee data puts September 2026 gross job fees at about $232,300, down 51.3% from $477,100 in September 2025.

Why Did DePIN Tokens Rise in Mid-October?

They rose together, and the dates argue against any one cause. Measured from the close before a sector sell-off earlier in the month, GRASS finished the mid-October day 28.60% higher and FIL 16.60% higher. IO gained 15.44% over the same stretch and ICP 7.25%, while RENDER still closed 1.24% below its starting point.

The sell-off itself landed on the day Grass launched its Contents API, which was also the first full day after ICANN published the .icp application. GRASS fell 7.53% and the ICP perpetual 9.82% on that bar.

Other AI and DePIN tokens fell with them, TAO down 7.85% and RENDER down 9.60%, while Bitcoin slipped 1.91%. FIL was the exception, closing that bar 1.33% higher.

Grass and Internet Computer both had their news land in a falling market, and both tokens dropped, so the later bounce is hard to pin on either announcement.

The two largest gains came in the two thinnest markets. GRASS and IO have only spot pairs on Phemex, and both turned over more than twice their 30-day averages, at 2.27 and 2.24 times.

The ICP and RENDER perpetuals traded below their averages, at 0.93 and 0.64 times. If you're reading the bounce as fresh demand, remember that a few large orders can move a book as small as IO's.

For a closer look at two of these names side by side, Phemex Academy's ICP vs FIL comparison sets the compute chain against the storage network.

Is DePIN Dead?

DePIN is alive in the plainest sense, since customers still pay these networks for work. Render's fee record shows how uneven that demand is. September 2026 was its biggest month for fees since September 2025. The month before brought in only about $120,000, roughly half as much. So the 51.3% drop says as much about an outsized 2025 peak as it does about fading demand.

The sector's case for 2026 rests on that monthly figure growing faster than the supply each network pays out. If you're tracking one number for any coin on this list, that's the one, and Phemex's Render price outlook for 2026 to 2030 sets out price scenarios for that token.

The mid-October rally is weak evidence either way. Its biggest gains came on light trading, and a theme that moves on light volume can reverse as quickly. Four of these five fell together only a few days before they rose together.

Risks of DePIN Tokens

  • Supply that keeps arriving. Grass and io.net both reserve tokens for investors and contributors that release over time. Filecoin keeps minting mining rewards even after its team vesting ends in mid-October 2026.

  • Thin order books. IO's Phemex spot pair averaged about $13,800 of turnover a day over the 30 days before the jump, the thinnest of the five by a wide margin. In a market that small, a single market order can fill far from the last price.

  • Revenue that stops short of holders. Render's fees fell by half over the year to September 2026. The io.net burn covers only part of what the network keeps after paying providers, so holders capture a slice of usage at best.

  • Leverage on the futures markets. ICP, FIL and RENDER trade as futures on Phemex. Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best DePIN crypto?

There's no single best DePIN crypto, because the five sell different services to different buyers. Grass posted the strongest mid-October move at 25.98%, and Filecoin carried the most Phemex futures turnover of the five on that day.

How does DePIN work?

A DePIN project pays suppliers in its own token for bandwidth, storage or GPU time, and customers pay to use that capacity. Render and io.net burn tokens out of that revenue, so heavy usage can offset the new supply they issue.

Is DePIN the future?

DePIN has something most crypto themes lack, which is customers paying for a service. The open question is scale, since Render's fees halved over the year to September 2026 even though that month was its best in a year.

Which DePIN coins can you trade on Phemex?

All five trade against USDT on Phemex spot, though Phemex has announced that the IO and RENDER spot pairs will be delisted at a later date. Filecoin and Render also have USDT perpetual futures, as does Internet Computer, while the Grass and io.net perpetuals are delisted.

Bottom Line

The mid-October jump tells you these five trade as one theme, and it tells you little about which network is winning. The real test for 2026 is fee growth against new supply. Filecoin meets it first, because its team vesting stops adding tokens in mid-October and leaves fewer new coins for demand to absorb.
