Ondo vs Chainlink favors Chainlink's LINK token for a year-long hold, since ONDO won only 120 of 647 such holds on Phemex's closes. ONDO carries votes in the Ondo DAO, and LINK pays for oracle services and earns rewards when staked. The projects are partners, and neither token is itself a real-world asset.
The headline return says the opposite. From ONDO's first Phemex close on 23 January 2024 to the late-October close, ONDO rose 63.98% and LINK fell 19.85%. That lead fails on about four of every five year-long holds, including the newest, where ONDO lost 39.66% and LINK 31.76%.

What Is Ondo (ONDO)?
ONDO is "the governance token for the Ondo DAO and Flux Finance", says Ondo's token documentation.
Those votes are narrow. Ondo's risk factors limit holders to controlling "a limited set of parameters" and administering role-based access, so the token governs a protocol and carries no share of the business beside it.
That business is Ondo Finance, "a leader in tokenized real-world assets" in its 2025 release with Chainlink. An October 2026 release on its private-markets product put its infrastructure at "$3.7B in TVL and over 1M holders", Ondo's own figure from one source.
Those risk factors give a token holder no claim on any of it. Our guide to ONDO as a real world asset project covers the project's background.
What Is Chainlink (LINK)?
LINK is the token of the Chainlink oracle network. Chainlink's token explainer says it's "used to pay for oracle services, compensate network service providers, and enhance the network's cryptoeconomic security". An oracle carries data from outside a blockchain onto it, such as the price a tokenized share needs.
Our explainer on what Chainlink (LINK) is and why it matters walks through the network's services.
How Do Ondo and Chainlink Differ?
The Ondo Chainlink partnership makes them customer and supplier. A joint release on 30 October 2025 named Chainlink "the data standard for Ondo tokenized stocks & ETFs". Ondo's stock product had over 100 assets and more than $300 million in TVL then, under the name Ondo Global Markets.
Both names sit on our list of top RWA crypto projects to watch in 2026, which files LINK under shared infrastructure.
Voting splits them too. LINK's contract has no vote or delegate functions, so its holders don't vote through the token. ONDO has a Governor. Ondo's DAO page sets its proposal threshold at 100 million ONDO. That Governor had logged 10 proposals by the late-October close, the newest on 12 January 2024, 1,022 days earlier.
Ondo vs Chainlink Supply
LINK has the fixed supply. Its contract sets the total as a constant of 10^27 base units, or 1 billion tokens at 18 decimals. There's no mint function in the code, and a simulated mint reverted.
ONDO's 10 billion came from one mint on 28 April 2022, with no burn events to the late-October close. The multisig that received it, a Safe that needs 4 of 7 signers, still held the contract's minter and admin roles at that close. A simulated mint sent from that Safe didn't revert, and the same call sent from a stranger reverted as "not authorized".
The token page says "There is no scheduled or planned inflation", and the risk factors say the number may be increased "by the vote of the holders of a majority of $ONDO tokens". At that close the role itself sat with the multisig.
That Safe held 51.79% of the 10 billion at the late-October close. Those tokens can move, since a simulated transfer of 1 ONDO sent from it returned true. In the year to that close, 825 million ONDO left it in six transfers and supply outside it grew 20.65%.
Chainlink's circulating supply page states a release schedule of "7% of the total supply per year", and the chain agrees. Its 33 listed non-circulating wallets let go of 70 million LINK in the same year, which left 233.2 million in them and lifted supply outside them 10.05%.
Chainlink's Reserve converts revenue into LINK. It held about 6.475 million LINK at the late-October close against about 651,100 a year earlier, a gain equal to 8.32% of the 70 million released.
The August 2025 Reserve post says "We do not expect any withdrawals from the Reserve for multiple years", and the Reserve dashboard logs each inflow. Ondo's token page, DAO page and docs index describe no such program for ONDO.
Can Ondo Be Staked?
Ondo's docs index, token page and DAO page describe no way to stake ONDO. The risk factors add that "Neither the T&Cs nor the Tokens will give holders any rights to any of the profits or revenues of the Company".
LINK can be staked, and this is the sharpest line between the two. The community pool was full at the late-October close, 40.875 million LINK against a 40.875 million cap, and the operator pool held about 1.646 million of 4.125 million. Together they held 42.52 million LINK, or 4.252% of 1 billion.
Chainlink's 2023 overview of staking v0.2 lays out the design, and its launch figures aren't current rates.
Ondo vs Chainlink: How Did Year-Long Holds End?
ONDO won 120 of the 647 year-long holds on Phemex's daily closes from January 2024 to the late-October close. That's 18.5%, against the 50% that even odds would give. It took 120 of the 121 holds that started in its first four months on Phemex, and then the record flips.
LINK won all 526 year-long holds that started after 22 May 2024, while ONDO won all 123 half-year holds that started in 2026.
The break is one day wide. A year held from 22 May 2024 ended with ONDO up 9.19% and LINK up 2.22%, and a year held from the next day ended with ONDO down 12.87% and LINK down 6.44%.

The year a hold started mattered more than its length. Holds started in 2025 mostly went LINK's way at every length, and holds started in 2026 mostly went ONDO's way at every length that had finished by the late-October close.
Neither coin cleared the obvious bar. ONDO beat Bitcoin on 9.1% of the year-long holds and LINK on 11.3%. A positive return came on 29.8% of ONDO's holds, 26.7% of LINK's and 46.8% of Bitcoin's.
Twelve days of start date show how loose the point-to-point figure is. Start on 4 February 2024 and the returns become +100.29% for ONDO and -36.86% for LINK, yet the hold count barely moves, to 108 of 635 (17.0%).
Method: a hold runs from one daily close to the close a set number of days later on Phemex's ONDOUSDT and LINKUSDT perpetuals, across all 1,012 closes from 23 January 2024 with no gaps and no ties. ONDO wins when its return is larger. The holds overlap, so this is about 2.8 years seen from many dates, never 647 separate tests.
Check: Phemex's spot pairs from 27 February 2024 give ONDO 85 of 612 (13.9%) with the same last win date, and CoinGecko's newest year shows the same winner at -39.59% against -31.83%.
Is Ondo Better Than Chainlink?
ONDO isn't better than LINK on the year-long record, though it's the bigger mover and it led in 2026. Both coins' highest Phemex close to late October came on 15 December 2024, and they closed late October with ONDO 79.64% under its high and LINK 60.83% under its own. From the 31 December 2025 close to late October, ONDO rose 15.78% while LINK fell 6.10% and Bitcoin fell 11.76%.
ONDO's daily move was the larger on 617 of 1,011 days (61.0%). It logged 67 moves of 10% or more to LINK's 42, and its daily standard deviation ran 5.52% to LINK's 4.42%.
That size comes on less turnover. Over the 30 daily bars of October to the late-October close, median turnover came to about $5.245 million on ONDOUSDT against about $9.993 million on LINKUSDT. That's dollar volume on one venue, never depth.
Which Is Better for a Year-Long Hold?
LINK is the better year-long hold on this record. It has the straight run of wins and the smaller drop from the same high date, and its supply rules are tighter, with a cap in the code and a stated release that matches the chain. Staking pays rewards on top to holders who get a pool place, and ONDO's docs offer no equivalent.
ONDO is the stronger candidate for a trader after the bigger swing, on its larger daily moves and its 2026 lead, with that thinner turnover beside them.
Owning both isn't diversification on these closes. They finished the day in the same direction on 807 of 1,011 days (79.8%), about as often as each moved with Bitcoin, at 80.7% for LINK and 77.2% for ONDO.
Both perpetuals trade on Phemex at up to 50x, ONDOUSDT with funding every four hours and LINKUSDT every eight. Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.
Ondo vs Chainlink Price Prediction: Where Does the Outlook Stand?
This comparison sets no price target for either coin. Our Ondo Finance price prediction 2025 page carries a 2025 date in its title, so read its levels as of that date.
The Chainlink (LINK) price prediction 2025-2030 page takes the longer view, and it too was written heading into 2026.
Both coins closed late October under their 50-day averages and above their 200-day averages on Phemex. ONDO was 7.28% under the first and 11.44% above the second, and LINK was 9.36% under and 14.45% above.
Across the final two closes of that stretch, ONDO fell 9.77% and then rose 9.12% to 0.4152 USDT, and LINK fell 10.17% and then rose 7.86% to 11.456 USDT.
What to watch: the next transfer out of Ondo's Safe, room in Chainlink's community pool and the inflows on the Reserve dashboard.
Ondo vs Chainlink Risks
ONDO's first risk is the multisig. Four of seven signers controlled a stake above half of everything minted at the late-October close, and the same Safe could mint more. At the pace of the year to late October 2026, that stake alone would take about 6.3 more years to leave.
Ondo's second risk is its leadership. Ondo's team page lists "Ian De Bode Acting CEO and President", and our profile of Ian De Bode, the acting Ondo CEO covers the Delaware court case.
LINK's risk is the supply still to come. At the stated 7% a year, the 233.2 million left in the listed wallets at the late-October close would last about 3.3 more years. Chainlink's 2023 staking overview also expects emissions-based rewards to "trend eventually toward zero" as sources such as user fees grow, so you can't treat the reward as fixed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ondo a RWA token?
ONDO is a governance token beside an RWA business. Ondo Finance tokenizes real-world assets, and Ondo's risk factors give token holders rights only over protocol settings and roles, so the token is a vote and no claim on any asset.
Is Chainlink RWA?
LINK isn't a real-world asset, because it's the payment and security token of an oracle network that supplies data to tokenized assets. Those assets include Ondo's tokenized stocks and ETFs under the October 2025 partnership.
Can Chainlink be staked?
Yes. LINK ran two staking pools at the late-October close, a full community pool of 40.875 million and an operator pool with about 1.646 million of 4.125 million. Stakers in both pools earn rewards on what they've staked.
How many Ondo tokens are there?
Ten billion ONDO came from a single mint on 28 April 2022, with no burns to the late-October close. At that close a multisig held 51.79% of them and a live mint role, so 10 billion is the count minted and no hard ceiling.
Bottom Line
Every return here that favors ONDO depends on where the clock starts. Start in its first four months and it wins the year, start in 2026 and it wins the half-year, and start anywhere after May 2024 and LINK took every completed year.
So the start date decides the return, and the token's rights settle the tie. A LINK holder has a staking pool to wait in when it has room, and an ONDO holder waits with a vote.
