What Is GUNZ? Token Price, Off The Grid GameFi Ecosystem and Trading Guide

Key Points

Learn what GUNZ is, how GUN powers Off The Grid's play-to-own economy, current token price, and how to buy GUN on Phemex. Full 2026 guide.

Most Web3 games launch a token first and ship a playable product never. GUNZ did it backwards. Off The Grid, a cyberpunk extraction royale built by a 450-person studio including Oscar-nominated director Neill Blomkamp, hit early access in October 2024 and topped the Epic Games Store free-to-play charts before GUN even had a ticker symbol. The token went live on March 31, 2025, peaked near $0.115 the same day, and has since pulled back to around $0.027 as of February 2026.

That price compression tells two stories at once. The crypto gaming sector has been bleeding VC funding for over a year, and GUN got caught in the downdraft. But underneath the chart, GUNZ's Layer 1 blockchain has processed over 740 million transactions across 14 million wallets with zero downtime during peak loads. Those are usage metrics most DeFi protocols would envy.

How Does GUNZ Work Inside Off The Grid?

GUNZ is an Avalanche L1 subnet built specifically for gaming. It powers Off The Grid (PC, PS5, Xbox) and a smaller mobile title called Technocore (iOS, Android).

Off The Grid plays like a cross between Warzone and Escape from Tarkov. You drop into Teardrop Island, swap cybernetic limbs for combat advantages, collect loot crates called HEXes, and fight your way to extraction points. The blockchain layer is completely optional. You can play the game as a standard free-to-play shooter without touching a wallet or thinking about tokens. If you opt in, extracted HEXes become NFT items that you actually own and can trade on the marketplace for GUN.

That opt-in design matters. Earlier GameFi projects like Axie Infinity collapsed when token rewards dried up because there was no reason to play the game itself. Off The Grid avoids that trap by attracting players who genuinely like the gameplay, which keeps lobbies full and creates organic demand for tradeable items.

What Does the GUN Token Actually Do?

GUN has layered utility, not just governance or speculation.

Every transaction on the GUNZ chain requires GUN as gas. NFT mints, marketplace trades, and item transfers all consume small amounts. Players earn GUN through daily and weekly challenges, plus the extraction loop itself. Extract a HEX, decode it into an NFT item, sell duplicates or unwanted loot on the peer-to-peer marketplace for GUN. The cycle feeds itself as long as people keep playing.

GUN also buys weapons, cyberlimb upgrades, and cosmetics from other players on the marketplace. Gunzilla pledged never to sell NFTs directly, so every item in the economy is player-generated through extraction. That keeps supply organic rather than inflated by studio sales.

Validator staking rounds out the utility. GUN fuels Validator NFTs that secure the network and earn rewards from transaction fees. Future updates will expand validator earnings across multiple games on the platform.

One friction point worth noting: full marketplace access requires OTG Pro ($12/month). Free players earn GUN passively but cannot list or buy items without the subscription.

How Has GUN Price Performed?

GUN launched via Binance Launchpool on March 31, 2025. The numbers were massive: $15.8 billion staked, 1.7 million Launchpool participants (a seven-month record), and $126 million in trading volume on day one. The token touched $0.115 within hours, then dropped 30%+ by market close.

Timing was brutal. The broader crypto market sold off hard in early April 2025, and GUN fell below $0.05 within weeks. A brief bounce came in July when GUNZ expanded to Solana with DeFi liquidity pools through Kamino and Orca, but it faded as the entire crypto gaming sector continued losing investor interest through the second half of 2025.

By early 2026, GUN settled into a $0.02 to $0.03 range. It popped 14% on January 22 during a broader altcoin rally but could not hold the gains. The 75%+ drawdown from launch day is steep, though not unusual for gaming tokens entering a post-hype compression phase after an overly aggressive first-day listing.

Gate.io projects a max price around $0.026 for 2026 with potential growth toward $0.05 by 2030 if ecosystem adoption expands meaningfully.

What Makes GUNZ Different from Other GameFi Tokens?

Three things separate GUNZ from the graveyard of failed gaming tokens.

First, the game existed before the token. Off The Grid had six months of live gameplay and over 480 million testnet transactions before GUN traded anywhere. Most GameFi projects sell tokens based on concept art. Gunzilla sold a working product.

Second, the production quality is AAA. The studio raised $120 million from Coinbase Ventures, VanEck, Delphi Digital, Animoca Brands, and others. The team draws from Ubisoft, EA, Blizzard, and THQ. This is not an indie side project with blockchain bolted on.

Third, the platform is designed for multiple games. Technocore is live. The GUNZ SDK and white-label tools let other studios launch their own economies without building blockchain infrastructure. If adoption follows, GUN demand scales across an ecosystem rather than depending on a single title's lifecycle.

GUN has the smallest market cap but the strongest console-quality game behind it. That gap could close if the ecosystem matures or widen further if player counts decline.

What Are the Risks?

Supply dilution is the biggest concern. Only 15.5% of total supply circulates today. As validator rewards, team allocations, and ecosystem incentives unlock over the next few years, selling pressure increases unless demand grows proportionally.

Sector headwinds affect GUN regardless of its merit. VC funding for blockchain gaming dried up through 2025 and has not recovered. Even solid projects trade at fractions of their hype-cycle peaks.

Single-game dependency persists until more titles launch on GUNZ. Technocore is small. Until a second major game generates real on-chain activity, GUN's value rides almost entirely on Off The Grid.

Mainnet migration is still being finalized. The full integration between Off The Grid's live game and the GUNZ mainnet is a complex transition. Bugs or delays could shake player confidence.

How to Buy GUN on Phemex

Option 1 (simplest): Go to Buy GUN on Phemex. Purchase directly with a credit card, bank transfer, or third-party payment. No need to convert to USDT first.

Option 2 (more control): Deposit USDT into your Phemex account and trade the GUN/USDT spot pair with limit orders.

Option 3 (experienced traders): Use GUN/USDT perpetual futures to go long or short with leverage. Gaming tokens gap hard on update announcements, so keep positions sized carefully.

Key Levels to Watch

The $0.02 to $0.025 zone has held as support since late 2025 through multiple tests. A break below $0.02 on volume opens a move toward the all-time low near $0.008. On the upside, $0.04 has capped every rally attempt in the past three months. A sustained break above $0.04 flips the structure and targets the $0.06 to $0.07 zone where GUN consolidated briefly after its launch spike.

More than price levels, watch on-chain activity. GUNZ processed 2.5 million transactions in a single day on January 15, 2026. Rising daily transactions and marketplace volume tend to front-run price moves in gaming tokens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GUN a good buy in 2026?

It is a high-risk asymmetric bet. The token sits 75% below launch price with a $43M market cap backing a real AAA game. If Off The Grid's player base grows and marketplace activity picks up, upside is meaningful. If the game stalls, the 10 billion max supply creates steady dilution pressure. Size small.

Can I play Off The Grid without buying GUN?

Yes. The game is entirely free-to-play with no crypto requirement. You only interact with GUN if you opt into the blockchain features.

Where does GUN trade?

Phemex, Binance, KuCoin, Gate, and MEXC. Decentralized liquidity exists on Avalanche and Solana through Kamino and Orca pools.

Bottom Line

GUNZ built a real game before asking anyone to buy a token. That alone puts it ahead of 95% of GameFi projects. At $0.027, the market is pricing in the bear case for the entire crypto gaming sector. If you believe quality games eventually drive sustainable token economies, GUN is one of the more grounded bets available. Just respect the supply schedule and size for volatility.
