a16z crypto released Lattice Jolt, a new version of its open-source zero-knowledge virtual machine Jolt that replaces elliptic-curve cryptography with lattice-based cryptography. The update delivers quantum-resistant security, 2-3x faster prover and verifier speeds, and short proofs under 100KB, described as the smallest among quantum-resistant zkVMs with additional compression potential. The system is based on the standard Module-SIS assumption, which also supports quantum-resistant standards including ML-DSA and ML-KEM. Lattice Jolt’s new polynomial commitment scheme, Akita, was led by LayerZero in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Southern California, and the a16z crypto team.
