Zcash is targeting a November network upgrade designed to make private shielded payments up to three times faster by reducing block times. The proposed change aims to cut confirmation wait times for exchanges and merchants by approximately two-thirds, making direct private ZEC transactions more practical for everyday use without exposing sender, recipient, or amount data on the public ledger.
The upgrade maintains unchanged long-term issuance by dividing block rewards by three and extending the halving interval from 1.68 million to 5.04 million blocks. Additionally, the NU7 proposal introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism under ZIP-235, which temporarily removes roughly 60% of transaction fees from circulation. These funds are scheduled to re-enter miner incentives starting in February 2031 as regular issuance declines through future halvings.
