$911 billion asset manager Federated Hermes plans to launch its first on-chain fund shares in early 2026, joining major institutions driving traditional asset tokenization. The firm has partnered with digital securities infrastructure company Prometheum to distribute blockchain-based fund shares through traditional brokerage accounts and financial advisor channels.
Digital assets head Kevin Barr indicated money market funds may be among the first tokenized products, though specific fund types and blockchain networks remain undisclosed. Unlike previous initiatives relying on third-party platforms, Federated Hermes will self-issue on-chain shares to maintain direct control over the tokenization process, aligning with similar efforts by BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and JPMorgan Chase.
