Ethereum researcher Ben Edgington has submitted a draft Core EIP titled "Decoupled Consensus" to the ethereum/EIPs repository, proposing a new consensus mechanism for the Beacon Chain that separates validators' votes on available chain heads from finality proofs. The draft outlines three primary goals: laying groundwork for future post-quantum (PQ) migration, enhancing fork-choice security, and reducing finalization time.
Co-authors include Francesco D'Amato, Roberto Saltini, Yann Vonlanthen, and Mikhail Kalinin. EIP editor abcoathup has recommended assigning the draft the number EIP-8453. Edgington noted that many details remain to be finalized, with the current stage focused primarily on securing an EIP number.
