Aztec Labs has relaunched zk.money, a privacy-focused wallet enabling private onchain transactions between individuals on Ethereum. The platform initially supports DAI, selected for its decentralized nature, with plans to add additional assets in the future. CEO Joe Andrews emphasized that personal transfers should not require publishing financial history publicly.
While zk.money obscures payment details once funds are inside the system, deposits from Ethereum mainnet remain visible, revealing sender and amount. The relaunch includes strict limits: individual transactions are capped at $2,500, and all users share a $50,000 daily deposit allowance. Aztec Labs states these restrictions serve as safeguards during the early phase and would require new smart contracts to increase.
The return of zk.money precedes potential privacy enhancements in Ethereum's planned 2027 Hegotá upgrade, which may allow privacy applications to handle transaction approvals and fees more independently. Those proposals remain under consideration as developers evaluate 66 total upgrade suggestions.
