Gitcoin (GTC) rose 99.62% from the 30 September close to $0.1874 on 5 October 2026, and no Gitcoin post from that week gives a reason. Our Gitcoin price prediction puts the 2026 base case at $0.115-$0.187 and the 2030 base case at $0.179-$0.450, a band that tops out at the August 2025 high.
GTC's 5 October volume of $144.9 million came to 8.83 times its $16.4 million market value, against 0.35 times on 29 September. The run began on 30 September, a day before Gitcoin's monthly forum update, and the update made no change to the token. GTech Network, a presale project, also uses the GTC ticker.

What Is Gitcoin?
Gitcoin is a funding program for open-source software, and its DAO votes with GTC, an Ethereum token. Its 1 October 2026 update says Gitcoin "funded open source for 8 years" and calls quadratic funding, a matching formula that weighs how many people give above how much each one gives, its "best answer."
A formula that rewards a crowd can be bent by one person posing as many donors, the trick known as a Sybil attack, which blockchains guard against. The tool Gitcoin built to screen out fake donors, Gitcoin Passport, now runs as Human Passport under Holonym Foundation's human.tech.
Phemex's earlier explainer on what Gitcoin is and how it funds open source covers the grants model, though its price section is out of date.
On 6 October the GTC contract showed a total supply of exactly 100 million tokens, and the DAO's Timelock held 12.51 million of them, the exact gap to the 87.49 million that CoinMarketCap counts as circulating. The contract also lets the Timelock mint up to 2% of supply once every 365 days, a power open since 1 January 2022 that has never lifted supply above 100 million.
Where Is the GTC Price After the 5 October Close?
GTC closed 5 October 2026 at $0.1874 on CoinMarketCap, up 7.43% from $0.1745 on 4 October and 99.62% from $0.0939 on 30 September. CoinGecko's close for the same day was $0.1872, 0.12% lower. It was GTC's highest close of 2026 and its highest since $0.1904 on 10 November 2025.
In the seven days from the 28 September close, GTC gained 119.0%, and it's up 43.68% for 2026 from the 31 December 2025 close of $0.1305. Bitcoin closed 5 October 0.89% lower on Phemex, so the move was GTC's alone.
The 5 October bar reached $0.2429 intraday and closed 22.81% below that high, so sellers met the spike.
We looked for a cause in Gitcoin's own channels and found none. Between 28 September and 5 October the governance forum opened two topics about Gitcoin, the 1 October reboot update and a proposal to lower the Snapshot quorum, and the Snapshot space held no vote. We read Gitcoin's homepage on 6 October and found no news section, and we didn't read its X account.
GTC had moved first, printing $0.1221 intraday on 30 September on volume 8.3 times the previous day's, more than a day before the update went up at 17:38 UTC on 1 October.
Is Gitcoin Dead?
Gitcoin is still running, and co-founder Kevin Owocki's October 2026 reboot update says "the dao and gtc keep doing what they do." It names the project's next phase Techne, with launch "targeted for mid-december."
When a holder asked about a new token on 2 October, Owocki replied in the thread at 13:53 UTC with "no plans for a new token."
Gitcoin runs as a DAO that decentralizes its governance. Its last Snapshot vote, an upgrade of the Gitcoin governor, ran from 9 to 16 September with 2.72 million GTC cast against a 2.5 million quorum.
The token tells a harder story. GTC set the lowest close in CoinMarketCap's series on 24 July 2026 at $0.06587, 99.72% below its November 2021 record close.
What Does GTC's Price History Show?
CoinMarketCap's GTC historical data starts on 25 May 2021, and the record close followed at $23.56 on 26 November 2021, with an intraday record of $29.03 the next day. That record is 125.7 times the 5 October 2026 close.

The August 2025 advance ran from $0.2030 on 22 June 2025 to $0.4503 on 13 August 2025, up 121.8%, and touched $0.5375 intraday that day. By 6 October 2025 GTC had slipped to $0.2857, still the highest of the 365 daily closes to 5 October 2026.
The May 2026 rally is the closest precedent. GTC rose 143.1% from $0.07348 on 3 April to $0.1786 on 11 May. It then fell 63.13% to its record low close on 24 July. Its intraday low of $0.06437 had come earlier, on 30 June. The August 2025 advance was 85.1% the size of the May leg, so both highs set the long-range bands below.
GTC Technical Analysis
Method: every reading uses CoinMarketCap's daily closes from 25 May 2021 to 5 October 2026, with simple 50-day and 200-day averages, Wilder's 14-day RSI and the standard 12-26-9 MACD.
Support
The first floor is the 3 October close of $0.1150, the pullback inside this rally and 38.67% under the 5 October close. Below it wait the 50-day average at $0.0900 and the 200-day at $0.0856, then the record low close of $0.06587.
Resistance
Overhead, the 5 October intraday high of $0.2429 comes first, 29.56% above the close. The 6 October 2025 close of $0.2857 is next, and past it the August 2025 high of $0.4503 would need a 140.2% climb.
The 1 October Golden Cross
GTC's 50-day average closed above its 200-day on 1 October 2026, at $0.08451 against $0.08435. By 5 October the gap had widened to 5.17%, with the 50-day at $0.0900 and the close 119.0% above the 200-day.
The cross before this one, on 29 August 2025, came 16 days after the August 2025 high and lasted 56 days before a death cross on 24 October 2025. Our guide to the golden cross and death cross sets out what each signal tracks.
RSI and MACD
The 14-day RSI closed 5 October at 78.43, above the 70 line traders call overbought. Its 2026 peak was 84.84 on 11 May, the day of the May high. MACD stood at 0.01931 against a signal line of 0.009526, roughly double it.
Gitcoin Price Prediction 2026
With 87 daily closes left in 2026, every 2026 bound comes from GTC's own closes in the 365 days to 5 October.

The bear range runs from the two-year closing low, the $0.06587 close of 24 July 2026, to the 200-day average. The base runs from the 3 October close to the 5 October close, and the bull from the 5 October close to the 6 October 2025 close.
We lean to the base case. A rally with no Gitcoin cause that closed 22.81% under its intraday high has room to cool, and an RSI of 78.43 points the same way. The level that decides 2026 is the 3 October close of $0.1150.
GTC Price Prediction 2027
For 2027 the base case runs from the 5 October 2026 close of $0.1874 to the 6 October 2025 close of $0.2857, a 52.39% climb to its top end. Reaching it means GTC holds its October gains and wins back the price it held a year before this rally.
The bear case spans $0.0659 to $0.1150, the two-year closing low to the 3 October close, and the bull runs from $0.2857 to the August 2025 high of $0.4503.
GTC Price Prediction 2028
The 2028 base case, $0.0856 to $0.4503, is the widest base case on the page and runs from the 200-day average of 5 October 2026 to the August 2025 high. The bear case runs from the two-year closing low to that 200-day, and the bull from $0.4503 to $0.5375, the intraday high of the August 2025 advance.
We print nothing above $0.5375, because GTC's record close came in its 2021 listing year, which leaves no cycle-to-cycle multiple to project with.
GTC Price Prediction 2030
Our Gitcoin price prediction 2030 base case runs from $0.1786 to $0.4503, the May 2026 high to the August 2025 high, and the same bands cover 2029. Holding the base means GTC stays above its May 2026 high, a level the 5 October close cleared by 4.94%.
The bear case spans the two-year closing low to the May 2026 high, $0.0659 to $0.1786, and the bull case runs from $0.4503 to the $0.5375 intraday high. The year table sets each base case beside its full range.

What About 2035 and 2040?
These are growth rates, never forecasts. A $1 GTC is 5.335 times the 5 October close, so it needs 19.87% a year to 31 December 2035 or 12.48% a year to 31 December 2040. A return to $0.45, near the August 2025 high and 2.401 times the close, needs 9.94% or 6.34% a year over the same spans.
What Could Drive GTC Higher or Lower?
Every Gitcoin date below is a project target, and the 1 October update calls its own forward items "targets, not commitments."
-
The Fed publishes the minutes of its 15-16 September meeting on Wednesday 7 October at 18:00 UTC.
-
Gitcoin's steward call is set for 14 October, and the Gitcoin Foundation board meets on 28 October.
-
September CPI lands on Wednesday 14 October at 12:30 UTC, the same day as the steward call.
-
The proposal to cut the Snapshot quorum from 2.5 million GTC to 1.5 million had not reached Snapshot when we checked on 6 October.
-
Gitcoin targets November for Buoy, the pilot that takes over quadratic funding.
-
Techne's launch is targeted for mid-December, and the update names legal work as the thing most likely to make it late.
What Are the Risks of Investing in GTC?
-
The DAO Timelock's 12.51 million GTC were worth about $2.345 million at the 5 October close. The quorum proposal would let a Snapshot vote count with 1.5 million GTC, about $281,200 at that close, against $468,600 under the 2.5 million rule.
-
Griff Green replied to that proposal on 2 October at 08:04 UTC that "if it only costs ~$200k to pass a vote to steal $2M" someone will try. The last two Snapshot votes drew 2.81 million and 2.72 million GTC, down from 4.09 million to 4.18 million in the three votes before them.
-
Techne gets its own accounts and brand, and the update says Gitcoin won't be part of the nonprofit application behind it. Nothing in the update ties Techne's progress to GTC.
-
GTech Network's presale token also carries the GTC ticker and Nvidia's GTC conference shares the letters, so check that a GTC market is Gitcoin's Ethereum token before you trade it.
Is Gitcoin a Good Investment?
On the record to 5 October, GTC is a momentum trade with a thin investment case, priced on trading volume more than on anything Gitcoin built or said that week.
The weak point is the link between Gitcoin's work and the token. Your GTC carries a vote over the Timelock and its mint power, and nothing in the Techne update ties that vote to the new project. We'd want a dated catalyst tied to GTC before holding it for years. On price, a close above the 6 October 2025 level of $0.2857 would show buyers holding the move.
How to Trade Gitcoin
Phemex lists no GTC market. Its product list on 6 October shows the GTC/USDT spot pair and both GTC perpetuals as delisted, so GTC has no live perpetual here.
For anyone searching a GTC/USDT price prediction, the dollar ranges on this page apply to a USDT pair for as long as USDT holds its dollar peg.
Phemex's Gitcoin buying guide sends buyers to its Onchain Trade platform, where the guide says to search for GTC or its contract address and confirm availability.
-
Check that the token is Gitcoin's GTC on Ethereum, whose contract address ends in 163F.
-
Confirm on the Onchain Trade platform that GTC is available before you fund your account.
-
Follow the GTC price on Phemex's Gitcoin price page, which the button below opens.
The futures button at the end of this page opens Phemex's crypto futures markets, which start on Bitcoin, and none of them tracks GTC. Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gitcoin legit?
Gitcoin is a real project with a public governance forum and a Snapshot voting space, and its 1 October 2026 update says it funded open source for eight years. That says nothing about price, and GTC closed 5 October 99.20% below its November 2021 record close.
Is GTC a good investment?
On the data to 5 October 2026, GTC is a momentum trade more than an investment case. Its 99.62% run from the 30 September close has no dated Gitcoin cause, and its May 2026 rally gave back its whole 143.1% gain by 6 June.
What is the Gitcoin price prediction for 2026?
Our 2026 base case is $0.1150 to $0.1874, from the 3 October close to the 5 October close. The bear case runs from $0.0659 to $0.0856 and the bull case from $0.1874 to $0.2857, the 6 October 2025 close.
What is the Gitcoin price prediction for 2030?
Our 2030 base case is $0.1786 to $0.4503, from the May 2026 high to the August 2025 high. The bear case spans $0.0659 to $0.1786 and the bull case $0.4503 to $0.5375, the August 2025 intraday high.
Can GTC reach its all-time high again?
GTC's record close of $23.56 on 26 November 2021 is 125.7 times its 5 October 2026 close. Getting back there by 31 December 2035 would take growth of about 68.76% a year, or 40.42% a year by the end of 2040.
Bottom Line
The week that doubled GTC left two Gitcoin forum topics, a new name for the reboot and a proposed quorum cut, and the only one that changes anything for GTC would make a treasury vote cheaper to pass. Volume worth 8.83 times a coin's market value can leave as fast as it arrived.
We hold the base case until a close under $0.1150 breaks it or a close above $0.2857 shows the market found a reason Gitcoin hasn't given.
How we built this: prices and volumes are CoinMarketCap daily closes from 25 May 2021 to 5 October 2026 checked against CoinGecko, with supply and the mint settings read from the GTC contract on 6 October. Governance facts come from Gitcoin's forum and Snapshot space, and every figure was traced to its source in a separate review before publication.
