Executives from three French crypto firms have proposed implementing a direct tax on conversions between cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. Deblock CEO Jean Meyer, Lyzi co-founder Damien Patureaux, and Waltio CEO Pierre Morizot argue that the current exemption for Bitcoin-to-stablecoin swaps causes revenue loss and hinders infrastructure development. They contend the measure would simplify crypto payments and accelerate merchant adoption. ADAN Director General Claire Balva countered that taxation should only apply at the fiat conversion level since taxes must be paid in euros. She warned the proposal could drive users toward unregulated stablecoins like USDT and emphasized that this remains a suggestion with no expected changes to France's current tax regime.
