A Bank for International Settlements working paper outlines a proof-of-concept system that records cryptographic fingerprints of official statistical data on the XRP Ledger to verify provenance and integrity. The prototype writes the summary value of each dataset batch to XRPL, while keeping raw data off-chain. The paper says publication takes about 3 to 5 seconds and verification takes about 1 to 2 seconds. Under moderate batch processing, on-chain fees are negligible. The BIS said the system remains a proof of concept and has not been deployed in production or adopted.
