Wintermute said stronger-than-expected August nonfarm payroll data lifted the probability of a rate hike to nearly 60%, but crypto markets held firm. Bitcoin briefly retreated from $82,400 before closing the week up 3.45% and remaining above $80,000.
Bitcoin ETFs posted $987 million in net inflows, marking a third consecutive positive week and bringing cumulative inflows to nearly $3.8 billion. Wintermute said capital is moving from stocks and gold into crypto assets, supporting the premise of a new cycle.
The firm identified $82,000 as the key breakout level and $72,000 as the level that would signal a trend change. The CLARITY Act vote, CPI data and the FOMC meeting are scheduled for next week, while the end of Robinhood Chain’s gas subsidy in late September will test activity sustainability.
