JPMorgan Asset Management has included Bitcoin in its 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions, marking a new milestone for the cryptocurrency as an institutional asset class. The firm projects a baseline compound annual return of 10% for Bitcoin over the next decade, with an estimated annualized volatility of 55%.
Grayscale Research Head Zach Pandl noted that the 10% expected return exceeds all other asset classes in the assumptions, while Bitcoin's correlation with U.S. large-cap equities is estimated at just 33%, lower than international stocks, corporate bonds, and hedge funds. This combination of high absolute returns and low correlation to core equity holdings makes Bitcoin a potentially attractive portfolio diversification tool. However, JPMorgan remains cautious about unstable correlations and has not incorporated Bitcoin into its primary covariance matrix, signaling that its role in portfolios is still being defined.
