The European Commission has established a dedicated sanctions office with a specialized crypto task force aimed at countering Russia's use of digital assets to evade sanctions. Announced at the EU's tenth high-level sanctions meeting, the task force will operate for 12 months with support from Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The broader sanctions office will coordinate member states' implementation of sanctions measures across policy design, enforcement support, and counter-evasion efforts. The crypto task force specifically targets networks facilitating illicit flows, including the A7A5 digital ruble stablecoin.
