Coins.ph has expanded its QRPh payment system to include Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), allowing users to make crypto payments at 700,000 QRPh-enabled merchants across the Philippines. Announced on May 19, this integration builds on the platform's earlier support for stablecoin payments, specifically USDT, within the national QR code standard developed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The system automatically converts crypto balances into Philippine pesos at checkout, facilitating seamless transactions without manual conversion.
The addition of BTC and ETH broadens the range of cryptocurrencies supported within the Philippines' QR payment ecosystem, enhancing the use of digital assets in everyday financial activities. Coins.ph, a licensed Virtual Asset Service Provider, highlights the growing adoption of crypto in the country, which now boasts over 15 million crypto users. CEO Wei Zhou emphasized the significance of this development, stating it redefines digital wallet capabilities and integrates popular cryptocurrencies into daily life in the Philippines.
