Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, emphasized that the platform's core value lies in its function as a global shared "bulletin board" for data availability, rather than just smart contracts or payment functions. In a recent post, Buterin highlighted Ethereum's ability to support cryptographic protocols like secure online voting and software version control through its upgraded PeerDAS mechanism, which enhances data availability by 2.3 times, with potential for further improvements. Buterin also underscored Ethereum's importance in payments, Sybil attack resistance, and secure smart contract deposits, positioning it as a key component of a decentralized and secure open-source technology stack. He believes that ongoing improvements in scalability and fee reduction will boost Ethereum's adoption across DeFi and other use cases.
