Sewell pleaded guilty to wire fraud, resulting in over $2.9 million in losses to investors between December 2017 and April 2024, affecting at least 17 investors. He also operated an unlicensed money transmission business, Rockwell Capital Management, converting over $5.4 million into cryptocurrency from March to September 2020, including transactions for fraudsters and drug traffickers.
Judge Ann Marie McIff Allen ordered Sewell to pay $3.605 million in restitution to victims, including investors, mortgage lenders, and credit unions, as well as $217,700 to the Department of Homeland Security.
