In 2025, Russian citizens transferred funds to approximately 4,600 cryptocurrency wallets controlled by fraudsters, according to the Russian Central Bank. The bank identified 7,087 financial pyramids, fake brokers, and other fraudulent schemes, with about 80% operating online. These scams predominantly used cryptocurrencies and money mules to raise funds. The central bank noted that 84% of fraudsters utilized cryptocurrencies for fundraising in 2025, up from 77% in 2024. Additionally, around 1,500 entities offered fake crypto investment projects to investors. Regulatory authorities have ordered the blocking of approximately 21,500 web pages and social media content related to crypto scams. The Russian Ministry of Finance previously reported that the daily crypto asset trading volume by Russian residents is approximately $648 million.
