The Intellectual Property and Commercial Court of Taiwan has sentenced Chen Li-ming to 10 years in prison for leaking trade secrets related to TSMC's 2nm process. Chen, a former employee of TSMC and Tokyo Electron's Taiwan subsidiary, was found guilty of soliciting advanced process information from TSMC engineers to benefit Tokyo Electron. The court also fined Tokyo Electron's Taiwan subsidiary NT$150 million, which may be reduced if compensation is paid to TSMC and the public treasury.
Additionally, three former TSMC employees received prison sentences ranging from two to six years, while a Tokyo Electron employee was sentenced to 10 months with probation. TSMC has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on trade secret leaks and has enhanced internal controls to prevent future incidents.
