PsiQuantum has commenced construction on a groundbreaking 1 million-qubit quantum computing facility in Chicago, potentially powerful enough to challenge Bitcoin's cryptography. Co-founder Peter Shadbolt shared progress on the site, which saw 500 tons of steel erected in just six days. The facility, developed in collaboration with Nvidia, aims to make quantum computing commercially viable, supporting next-generation AI supercomputers. Despite concerns from the Bitcoin community about quantum computing's potential to compromise Bitcoin's security, PsiQuantum co-founder Terry Rudolph stated in July that the company has no plans to attack Bitcoin. Current estimates suggest that around 100,000 qubits are needed to break 2048-bit keys, while Bitcoin uses 256-bit keys. Research indicates that only 10,230 Bitcoin, valued at $728.2 million, are at risk from quantum attacks, a figure considered manageable by market standards.
