NEAR Protocol co-founder Illia Polosukhin has highlighted the growing threat of AI-assisted hacking, which is outpacing traditional code review methods. Polosukhin noted that AI is significantly speeding up the discovery of software vulnerabilities, rendering manual review models obsolete. He cited the Balancer incident last October as a pivotal moment for AI-driven attacks. To combat this, Polosukhin advocates for the adoption of formal verification, where mathematical proofs ensure code behavior aligns with specifications. AI can generate these proofs, which humans then verify, reducing the time needed for proof generation. He suggests extending formal verification beyond smart contracts to critical internet and network software. Concurrently, NEAR has released an upgrade enabling users to switch to quantum-resistant account keys and allowing the network to scale automatically with increased activity.
