A new constant-time UTXO database, UTXO(1), developed for the Hornet Node, has demonstrated significant performance improvements in Bitcoin consensus validation. The database, designed for high parallelism and efficiency, completed a reindexing and validation task in just 17 minutes, compared to 3 hours and 27 minutes for Bitcoin Core v30 under similar conditions.
UTXO(1) features lock-free, constant-time queries, an LSM-style age-tiered index, and native support for funding, spending events, and reorgs without undo data. The benchmark included reading and deserializing mainnet data, validating headers, and evolving the UTXO database, excluding script validation. The developer plans further profiling and integration into Hornet Node, aiming to enhance Initial Block Download efficiency.
