The Ethereum Foundation and Keyring have raised over $22,000 to support the legal defense of Tornado Cash developers Roman Storm and Alexey Pertsev. This initiative, which began on Thursday, aims to assist the developers as they appeal their convictions related to money laundering charges. Keyring plans to allocate additional funds from its ZkVerified vaults over the next two months. Roman Storm was convicted earlier this year for money transmitting, while Alexey Pertsev received a 64-month sentence in 2024 for facilitating $1.2 billion in laundering through Tornado Cash. The Ethereum Foundation had previously committed $500,000 to Storm's defense, and the Solana Policy Institute contributed a similar amount in August. This fundraising effort underscores a trend of decentralized communities supporting legal defenses for open-source developers.
