The Ethereum Foundation and Columbia University have announced the creation of the Columbia-Ethereum Research Center for Blockchain Protocol Design, with a funding commitment of up to $6 million from the Ethereum Foundation over three years. An additional $1.5 million will be contributed through philanthropic efforts. The center, led by Columbia Engineering, aims to advance blockchain infrastructure and protocols, with Tim Roughgarden, a computer science professor, spearheading the research activities. This collaboration focuses on fostering academic research and innovation in blockchain technology, covering areas such as computer science, engineering, policy, and economics. The center will also offer educational bootcamps for junior researchers, highlighting Ethereum's dedication to exploring decentralized systems and enhancing its ecosystem.
