Coinbase will automatically convert holdings of 14 restricted crypto assets for European Economic Area retail users on October 30, 2026, to comply with the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The affected tokens include USDT, PYUSD, USD1, DAI, PAX, GUSD, GYEN, BUST, UST, RAI, PAXG, MUSD, USDS, and TGBP, none of which have received MiCA authorization. Coinbase has already suspended trading and buy/sell functions for these assets among EEA retail accounts.
Users wishing to retain their original assets must withdraw them to a supported external wallet before the deadline; otherwise, remaining balances will be converted at market price into USDC or other supported crypto assets or fiat currency. Deposits of the listed tokens made after October 30 will not be credited, converted, or guaranteed recoverable. The move responds to guidance issued by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) on October 8, following the end of MiCA's transition period on July 1, 2026, which will not be extended.
