Spanish bank BBVA has partnered with Ripple to provide institutional Bitcoin and Ether custody services in Europe. This collaboration follows BBVA's recent launch of retail trading and custody services for these cryptocurrencies. Ripple's custody solution will enable BBVA to offer comprehensive end-to-end services to its customers, aligning with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) that has spurred traditional banks to enter the crypto sector. This partnership is part of a broader trend among European banks embracing digital assets, with institutions like Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered also expanding their crypto services. BBVA's head of digital assets, Francisco Maroto, emphasized the importance of meeting regulatory standards, while Ripple's Cassie Craddock highlighted BBVA's innovative approach in the region.
