The World Gold Council released its "Digital Gold Market Opportunity Report" on October 20, revealing that the digital gold market has reached $45–55 billion in size. Digital gold converts trusted physical gold into tradable digital "standard gold units," supporting products and services including tokenization, vaulted gold, and collateral without being constrained by the attributes of physical gold bars or their storage locations.
The report's five-year base-case scenario forecasts a compound annual growth rate of approximately 27%, projecting the market to reach $160–170 billion by 2031. Despite the physical gold investment market being worth roughly $13 trillion, digital gold—including vaulted digital gold and tokenized gold—currently accounts for less than 1% of the global physical gold market.
Tokenized gold's cumulative spot trading volume reached $90 billion in Q1 2026 alone, surpassing the full-year trading volume recorded in 2025.
