Australia’s securities regulator has warned crypto firms using temporary regulatory relief that they must apply for a financial services license by September 30 or risk penalties of up to 10% of annual turnover.
From October 1, firms that are not authorized and do not meet ASIC relief conditions may breach financial services laws and face civil and criminal penalties. ASIC said it has received more than 45 digital asset-related license applications since updating its guidance in October 2025, and it extended the relief period from June 30 to September 30 on June 25. The regulator also said the relief period is separate from the digital asset framework scheduled to take effect in April 2027.
