The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned 10 individuals and one entity for their roles in a North Korean IT worker fraud and cryptocurrency laundering network. The illicit proceeds funded North Korea's weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.
Key figures include Russian national Ilya Boykov, who exchanged approximately $3.5 million in cryptocurrency for North Korea's Alis company since 2024, and Vitold Obertas, who facilitated nearly $2 million in crypto transactions for North Korean officials since January 2025. Additionally, the Russia-based, North Korea-controlled entity FFTDC and its six IT workers were sanctioned after generating over $750,000 in revenue since 2025 through fraudulent schemes targeting U.S. companies.
Australia and the European Union implemented similar sanctions actions against the network this month, coordinating international efforts to disrupt North Korean financial channels.
