The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has formally opposed a new bill aimed at legalizing and regulating cryptocurrencies, warning that the proposed rules could endanger the country's financial system. The central bank urged lawmakers to revise the legislation before its final vote.
The NBU raised concerns that foreign tokens functioning as "electronic money" could threaten Ukraine's monetary sovereignty and enable issuers to circumvent regulations governing domestic assets. Additionally, the bank noted that the bill grants the securities regulator discretion over the number of licensed crypto trading platforms, creating risks of market monopoly and corruption.
