UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan announced that Britain is working closely with the U.S. government to ensure the UK AI Safety Institute retains pre-release testing access to advanced AI models. Speaking in London, Narayan stated his goal is to make the UK one of the most resilient nations against AI-driven threats.
The coordination follows reports that the Trump administration previously asked OpenAI and Anthropic to delay sharing models with the UK until U.S. authorities deemed them safe. The U.S. has tightened global access to Silicon Valley AI technology, including banning Anthropic from releasing its latest model to foreign citizens earlier this year. Anthropic also reportedly withheld the newest version of its Mythos model from the UK AI Safety Institute without explanation.
