A Shanghai court handed down the city's first verdict in a case involving AI-forged signatures and theft of large-model computing power, sentencing a man surnamed Zong to three years in prison with a three-year reprieve and a 40,000 yuan fine for illegally obtaining computer information system data.
Zong exploited a non-public interface on a large-model aggregation platform by building a relay website to resell AI image- and video-generation services at discounted prices. He used AI-generated scripts to register accounts in bulk, harvesting sign-up bonus credits while bypassing IP-based registration limits and forging electronic signature verification. The scheme resulted in over 290,000 unauthorized API calls and more than 34,000 yuan in illicit proceeds.
The victim platform detected over 4 million accounts registered from a single IP address within a short period and reported the incident to police in March 2026.
