Hardware wallet maker SecuX continues to experience service outages following an emergency maintenance period that began October 16. Despite claiming at 3:34 PM that day that operations had returned to normal, multiple users reported as of October 17 that they remain unable to access their wallets.
The incident escalated when Ripple CTO David "JoelKatz" Schwartz revealed that the SecuX Android app pushed a fraudulent notification containing a link to a phishing page designed to steal users' 12 or 24-word seed phrases. The disclosure came just hours after the company announced its system upgrade.
SecuX has not explained how the malicious notification was distributed through its official application. The company reiterated that it will never ask users for recovery phrases, but has provided no further details on the cause of the security breach or timeline for full service restoration.
