Russia's central bank has registered the first batch of cryptocurrency exchange operators and digital asset custodians under new regulatory rules effective September 1. The initial list includes four exchange operators and five custodians, with VTB Bank appearing on both registries and Sberbank securing custodian status.
Sberbank announced plans to launch its first crypto products on December 1, initially supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT. Services will be accessible through SberBank Online, SberInvestments, and SberBusiness platforms. The registrations follow President Putin's August signing of a comprehensive crypto regulatory bill that establishes oversight for trading platforms, custodians, brokers, and investors while maintaining the prohibition on cryptocurrency payments for goods and services.
