Ripple engineer Mayukha Vadari emphasized the security benefits of the XRP Ledger's (XRPL) native multisignature system following a $3 million exploit affecting Ethereum and Base wallets. The attack, which targeted 86 Gnosis Safe wallets, exploited vulnerabilities in third-party multisign systems, allowing attackers to drain funds and convert them through decentralized exchanges.
Vadari explained that XRPL's multisignature feature is integrated directly into the protocol, eliminating the need for external smart contracts and reducing potential attack vectors. This built-in security feature allows for flexible account management, including the ability to modify signer groups and rotate credentials without disrupting access. The incident has drawn attention to the importance of native blockchain features in enhancing wallet security and minimizing risks associated with smart contract dependencies.
