Nine blockchain organizations have announced the formation of a quantum alliance dedicated to establishing unified "quantum-ready" open standards. Modeled after the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the coalition aims to clarify and verify quantum-resistance claims across networks, wallets, and infrastructure while defining migration compatibility rules. The initiative will operate through four specialized working groups focusing on blockchain migration, post-quantum zero-knowledge systems, wallet security, and cross-chain compatibility.
Founding members include Quantus, Postquant Labs, Midnight Foundation, Keystone, Abelian, and Hacken, representing sectors such as underlying protocols, privacy networks, rollups, hardware wallets, and security auditing. The alliance highlighted that elliptic curve signatures currently used by mainstream blockchains leave approximately 6.04 million bitcoins—about 30% of the total supply—in a quantum-exposed state. If public keys are exposed on-chain, sufficiently powerful quantum computers could theoretically use Shor's algorithm to reverse-engineer private keys and steal assets.
