The NBA has officially entered the prediction market space, naming Kalshi and Polymarket as its "preferred prediction market exchanges." Both platforms will gain rights to use NBA intellectual property, U.S. marketing rights, and official data provided by Sportradar to operate and settle NBA-related markets. DraftKings also expanded its partnership to become a licensed prediction market operator.
In parallel, the league signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to establish an integrity framework for event contracts. The agreement includes restrictions on tradeable market scopes, prohibits league and team personnel from trading NBA event contracts, and mandates information sharing on investigations and suspicious transactions. The NBA indicated that additional licensed operators will be onboarded in the coming weeks.
