Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley executives are positioning blockchain tokenization as a strategic growth lever rather than an existential threat to traditional banking models. At Wells Fargo, cross-border payments using tokenized deposits are already in production, settling funds in beneficiary accounts within two minutes or less. CFO Michael Santomassimo noted that while volumes remain small, the technology offers a path to expand international payment share without building out a costly global branch network. The bank is also exploring applications for tokenized securities, real-world assets, and crypto trading for wealth clients, though no launch timeline was provided.
Morgan Stanley’s focus centers on accelerating asset transfers across its wealth management and institutional securities divisions. CFO Sharon Yeshaya emphasized that faster, frictionless settlement will not eliminate demand for advisory services. "The tokenized world means it is faster and easier to move assets around, and you will need advice," she said. Unlike competitors announcing specific products, Morgan Stanley identified tokenization broadly as an additional opportunity within its existing digital investment strategy.
