Google's Quantum AI team has highlighted the vulnerability of most blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies due to their reliance on the ECDLP-256 protocol. In a recent blog post, Google emphasized the need for urgent migration to quantum-resistant cryptography, as current solutions like post-quantum cryptography (PQC) require time to implement. Google aims to complete this transition by 2029 and is working with partners including Coinbase, the Stanford Blockchain Research Center, and the Ethereum Foundation to expedite the process.
