G20 finance ministers and central bank governors said digital assets have the potential to support economic growth and committed to creating a clear path for responsible innovation, according to the latest G20 presidency statement issued by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The statement also called for steps to improve cross-border payments, including longer operating hours for banking and central bank systems handling large-value or time-sensitive transfers, wider adoption of the ISO 20022 global messaging standard, and simpler cross-border transfers of financial services data. The G20 is also awaiting the Financial Stability Board’s assessment of the cross-border implications of global stablecoins.
