Epic Games has delayed its Marvel and Star Wars shooter game developed with Disney, originally scheduled for March 2027, as the company shifts to an "AI-first" production model. The project team is now required to use Anthropic's Claude and cease hand-writing code, while all art content will be generated through a fully AI workflow with human oversight retained throughout development.
CEO Tim Sweeney stated the company is pursuing "maximum AI acceleration" to enable teams to produce more and better work rather than reducing headcount. Communications director Jake Jones confirmed the shift toward AI-accelerated development led by Epic developers, though reports indicate the mandate to stop manual coding and adopt generative AI for art has surprised some employees.
