Nearly 90% of large enterprises are embracing tokenized cash to accelerate payment processing, according to a recent survey by DBS. Despite this high adoption rate, regulatory uncertainty, security risks, and integration challenges remain significant obstacles. Approximately two-thirds of respondents expressed a desire for banks to provide a single point of access to the tokenized money ecosystem, while 63% sought assistance with pilots and system integration.
Lim Soon Chong, DBS’s group head of global transaction services, noted that fragmentation adds complexity and compliance burdens for companies. "The future will be defined by new forms of money and technology, and also shaped by trusted anchors who can orchestrate value movement across multiple networks," Lim stated. DBS launched its own infrastructure, DBS Token Services, in 2024, connecting its permissioned blockchain with payment systems to enable round-the-clock settlement governed by preset conditions.
Other major financial institutions are also reporting increased corporate usage. Citi announced at its May investor day that hundreds of clients were moving nearly $1 billion daily through Citi Token Services, primarily for liquidity and working capital management. In September, DBS and Citi successfully completed a weekend dollar payment between Singapore and New York using tokenized deposits via the Swift Digital Ledger, settling the transaction in minutes outside traditional banking hours.
