Rep. Bill Huizenga, a crypto-friendly Republican and Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, has fallen behind Democratic challenger Sean McCann in his reelection bid with approximately 95% of ballots counted. Huizenga trails by more than 7,000 votes, though the race remains uncalled.
Huizenga’s potential defeat compounds uncertainty for the committee’s digital assets subcommittee, as its chairman Bryan Steil has already lost his seat. Because subcommittee names, jurisdictions, and memberships reset with each new Congress, the body could be renamed, restructured, or abolished entirely.
