A new proposal asks Cardano holders to allocate approximately $5 million toward a copper investment strategy, betting on significant upside potential in commodity markets. Toto founder Monty Metzger stated that bullish scenarios project roughly 30% annual appreciation for copper, which could yield a 69% return over 24 months and exceed the 49.4% break-even threshold. The initiative aims to scale tokenized copper assets to $5 billion, positioning Cardano as a flagship showcase for real-world asset tokenization.
The budget allocates 2.64 million ADA to Toto for technology and project management, plus a 441,732 ADA execution fee. Additional costs include up to 278,291 ADA through margins on third-party storage and insurance invoices, bringing total payments to about 3.36 million ADA, or roughly 15% of the request. Metzger emphasized that Toto takes no direct profit from the proposal, attributing much of the spending to Cardano’s constitutional requirements for oversight and auditing. Tokens would initially be minted on Ethereum before being bridged to Cardano.
